It was total chaos in the NCAA selection show this afternoon, as the committee churned out a pretty unexpected bracket:
Midwest Regional (South Bend, Indiana):
16 RIT vs. 1 Minnesota State
9 Harvard vs. 8 Nebraska-Omaha
West Regional (Fargo, North Dakota):
14 Quinnipiac vs. 2 North Dakota
12 St. Cloud State vs. 7 Michigan Tech
Northeast Regional (Manchester, New Hampshire):
13 Yale vs. 3 Boston University
9 Minnesota vs. 6 Minnesota-Duluth
Regional (Providence, Rhode Island):
15 Providence vs. 4 Miami
11 Boston College vs. 5 Denver
It's a pretty unfavorable bracket for BC. In what might be the Bracket of Death, BC has to play two of Denver, Miami, and Providence, three of the strongest teams in the field.
Another option for the committee was to keep bracket integrity in the Manchester regional, putting BC against a struggling Duluth team and lining up a BC vs. BU regional final.
BC will be the early game in Providence on Saturday, March 28th. We'll see if the Eagles have a run in them to make it to the Frozen Four at the friendly confines of the TD Garden in Boston.
