Report: Texas To Hire Louisville Head Coach Charlie Strong

Louisville head coach Charlie Strong, fresh off a dominant win over Miami in the Russell Athletic Bowl, will reportedly leave to become the next head coach at Texas. Strong will replace Mack Brown, who retires after 16 seasons as the Longhorns head coach.

In four seasons at Louisville, Strong compiled a 37-15 record (20-9 American née Big East), including a win in last year's Sugar Bowl over Florida. Though the Cardinals will be without QB Teddy Bridgewater, Strong leaves behind a strong 2014 Louisville recruiting class that the next coach will try to keep together.

Louisville will join the ACC (and the ACC's Atlantic Division) next season. Assuming that the Cardinals take over outgoing Maryland's schedule, Boston College will host Louisville in 2014. BC and Louisville have met six times in all, but only as recently as 1998. The all-time series is knotted at three a piece.

The Eagles are set to face at least four programs breaking in new head coaches in 2014. In addition to Louisville (TBA), Boston College will face first-year coaches at UMass (TBA), USC (Steve Sarkisian) and Wake Forest (Dave Clawson) next season. Make that five should Louisville replace Strong with Colorado State's Jim McElwain, who served as a UofL assistant under John L. Smith.
