A Boston College Men’s Hockey Alumnus Will Hoist the Stanley Cup This Year

NHL: Stanley Cup Playoffs-Tampa Bay Lightning at Washington Capitals Amber Searls-USA TODAY Sports

With the Washington Capitals’ dominating 4-0 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 7 of the NHL Eastern Conference Finals, it became certain that a Boston College alumnus will hoist the Stanley Cup this year.

Brooks Orpik, a three-year veteran at Boston College, plays for the Washington Capitals, and Alex Tuch, a more recent alumnus of the program, plays for the Western Conference champion, the Vegas Golden Knights. Since, at this point in the playoffs, one of the two teams must win, either Orpik or Tuch will be on a winning team, guaranteeing that a BC alumnus will be on a Stanley Cup winning team.

This will be the 19th time a Boston College men’s hockey alumnus will win the cup. The ensured victory will grant Boston College a tie with the University of Wisconsin for the most times an alumnus has won the cup, per Boston College Athletics.
