Boston College hockey favorite Brian Boyle has been named one of three finalists for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy. The award, honoring perseverance and dedication to hockey, will be presented at NHL Awards on June 20.

Boyle, who overcame a preseason scare with chronic myleoid leukemia, returned to the Devils lineup and helped lead New Jersey to an unexpected playoff appearance. His emotional debut goal for New Jersey on November 9 was one of the most memorable moments of the NHL season.

The other two finalists are Roberto Luongo of the Florida Panthers, and Jordan Staal of the Carolina Hurricanes.

Boyle played at BC from 2003-2007, a stretch when BC appeared in three Frozen Fours and won two Hockey East tournament championships. Boyle ended his college career with 140 points in four seasons. He has played for Los Angeles, the New York Rangers, Tampa Bay, Toronto and New Jersey over the course of his 11 years in pro hockey.
