BC Athletics 2018-2019 Prop Bets

For entertainment purposes only, of course

With the 2017-2018 Boston College sports season in the books, it’s time to look ahead to next season. What better way than to put up a series of prop bets on the upcoming academic year? With three national title contenders, our strongest football team in years, and basketball looking like it might have itself another solid season, it’s shaping up to be one of the best BC Athletics years in a long time.

While the Supreme Court did open the door for states to legalize sports betting, it’s definitely not an actual thing yet. So this is — very obviously — for entertainment purposes only.

AJ Dillon scampered for 14 touchdowns over the course of the 2017 season. BC men’s hoops put together a 19 win season. With Dillon playing a full season as the lead back, this figures to be pretty close.

This is trickier than it looks, because while MIH is finally back in national title contention and WLAX & WIH both figure to have their best teams in program history, winning a national championship is really freaking hard.

The last question was basically just “will we win a natty,” so let’s take it up a notch. The big contenders for conference & national hardware are, once again, MIH, WIH, and WLAX, with the other ACC sports having their chances as well. Each team can win up to three trophies toward this over/under.

The women of BC Softball clubbed 20 homers this past season, with BC football tossing 14 touchdowns — however, this was with Anthony Brown only playing in 10 games and accounting for 11 of those scores. With the football team looking even better for next year, that number figures to increase.

WIH returns the only freshman ever to win the Patty Kazmaier Award, plus three Olympians. WLAX returns the 2018 Tewaaraton Award winner, Sam Apuzzo, plus two other Top 25 finalists, plus Kenzie Kent for her 5th year. AJ Dillon is getting some Heisman love. MIH figures to have at least one high-end scorer in consideration for the Hobey Baker this season. There are some real superstars on the Heights this year.

Another tricky one. Women’s hockey as a sport tends to have some video game numbers for its top players, and BC boasted far and away the nation’s top scorer, freshman Daryl Watts, who put up a Patty Kaz-winning 42-40—82 line. Men’s hockey’s scoring leader from this past season, Logan Hutsko, led the team with a 12-19—31 line, which was only good for 83rd in the country. Will we see a couple big scorers on this year’s men’s team?

This one is as simple as it gets. Martin Jarmond hired two ACC coaches this offseason, and both teams went exactly 7-23 last year. Which new head coach improves on last year’s record the most?

Lots of ways your thinking can go with this one. WIH lost 5 games this season, and WLAX lost 2. But both teams figure to be better next year and could reasonably go undefeated. Football, meanwhile, is expected to be very good, and has a very streak-able first half. Tough call.

WIH is going to be a very, very, very strong favorite to win their Beanpot this year. Between them, MIH, and Birdball, how many will the Eagles get? Is the Qdoba Rice And Bean Pot still a thing? Well, whether it is or not, it doesn’t count toward this tally.

The MBB went 19-16. WBB went 7-23. MIH went 20-14-3, but figures to be much better this year. Other things to look out for: How does MBB deal with losing Jerome Robinson? How quickly does new WBB head coach Joanna Bernabei-McNamee transform her team into a winner? Lots to consider.
