The story of Boston College’s first three games of the season was missed opportunities. Despite outshooting and outpossessing their opponent in each game, they weren’t finding the back of the net - and as a result, they were 1-2 through three games, with the one win requiring a late, wild comeback.
Those chances started to go in on Sunday, with BC scoring two goals in the first half and three more in the second en route to a 5-1 victory over Colgate.
Five different Eagles found the back of the net in Sunday’s win, while freshman Sam Coffey also had three assists on top of her early goal.
After failing to cash in on a bevy of corner kicks on Friday night against Vanderbilt, BC scored two goals off corners on Sunday. Powerful defender Gianna Mitchell smashed in a header in the 46th minute to make it 3-0; sophomore Erin Convery also knocked in a corner in the 63rd minute to finish off the scoring at 5-1.
BC returns to action on Thursday night at Stony Brook, then rounds out the weekend with a home game against Northeastern next Sunday. BC's next 5 games are against teams from New England or New York, and they'll be looking to rack up some wins against local foes before the ACC grind begins.
