A strong second half by the North Carolina pushed the Tar Heels past Boston College in the ACC championship game Sunday afternoon, ruining the Eagles’ perfect season and causing a BC athletic program to fall just short of a championship yet again.
The Eagles took a 9-7 lead into the locker room at halftime despite a late UNC push. However, the second half was dominated by the Tar Heels, who outscored the Eagles 8-4 to push past the Eagles for the ACC championship win.
The Eagles spoiled a three goal effort by Sam Apuzzo.
Additionally, for the second straight game, Abbey Ngai was relieved in the middle of the game for Lauren Daly, who closed the game out for BC.
The Eagles now will await the announcement of the NCAA field. The Eagles, despite not winning the ACC’s automatic bid, will likely still make the NCAA tournament, but the loss will no doubt hurt their seeding.
