Boston College Women's Basketball Falls To Virginia, 74-59, At ACC Tournament

Things were looking promising for the Boston College women's basketball team ... until they weren't. Unlike the men's squad, the ladies took care of business in non-conference play; jumping out to a 10-5 record to start the year. And then, the proverbial bottom dropped out.

The Lady Eagles proceeded to lose 14 of their final 16 games down the stretch, including each of the last seven, to finish the year 12-19 (3-13 ACC). The 2013-14 campaign ended with a 74-59 loss to 10th-seeded Virginia on Wednesday in the first round of the ACC Women's Basketball Tournament at the Greensboro Coliseum.

Boston College ends the year with the exact same overall record it finished with a year ago (12-19), though the Eagles won two less league games. While ACC women's basketball is stacked at the top -- with five teams ranked in the top 15 of this week's polls -- it was BC's performances against some of the programs at the bottom of the league table that seem to indicate that the rebuilding job under second year coach Erik Johnson may take a bit longer than was thought midway through the 2013-14 campaign.

Next season, the Eagles lose G/F Shayra Brown, G/F Kristen Doherty and F/C Katie Zenevitch to graduation, but have signed a pair of well regarded players in PG Ashley Kelsick (Highland H.S., CA) and P Katie Quandt (Lakeville H.S., MN) for next season.
