Game Weekend Links: Week 1 vs. Maine

A look at some news and commentary from around all of the internets

Winslow Townson-USA TODAY Sports

It's game weekend! (Well, close enough... with college football returning tonight, I'm going to count Thursday as the start of the weekend.) At the start of each weekend we will do a "link dump" post connecting you to some of the best BC-related content.

Let's get started.

On BC Football

The Boston Globe's Michael Vega publishes his week 1 ACC notebook in today's paper, including a look at the BC vs. Maine matchup. The Globe also published a rundown of other action around New England in week 1 of football season.

The Boston Herald yesterday featured an article on returning offensive lineman Harris Williams.

ATLEagle published his annual three-part season preview this week, making three sets of predictions: the worst-case scenario; the best-case scenario; and his actual prediction. The bottom line? ATL thinks BC's young talent will overcome their inexperience and win 8 games in the regular season.

On The Black Bears

Maine's Bangor Daily News took a look earlier in the week at the Black Bears, highlighting their hopes to have a much-improved offense if they are going to compete in 2015. They also report that Maine is likely to platoon their quarterbacks. We did see two different QBs in 2014 vs. BC.

While we haven't been able to find a Maine football blog, the closest we've found is the Black Bears discussion board at MBR.org, a site generally about Maine high school sports. Check in there for a Maine perspective.

Other News and Notes

Hayley Dowd scored the winning goal last night in BC women's soccer's 2-1 win over Harvard in Allston. The Eagles are now 4-1-0 with a five-game homestand looming.

The men's soccer team also notched a win this week against a crosstown rival, beating BU 3-2 in front of a massive 7,379-person crowd at Nickerson Field. The Eagles next host SMU on Friday evening in Newton.
