2016 ACC Softball Tournament: Quarterfinals

#4-seed Boston College Eagles (30-22, 12-9 ACC)

#5-seed North Carolina Tar Heels (30-22, 13-11 ACC)

Date: Thursday, May 12, 2016

Game Time: 1:30 PM ET

Location: Raleigh, N.C.

TV: The game will be televised on NESN in New England, along with other Regional Sports Networks. Click here for a full list.

Streaming: You can watch the game online via ESPN3 or the WatchESPN App.

Previous Matchups: Boston College dropped 2-of-3 against UNC in a three game set in Chestnut Hill back on April 9-10. The Tar Heels swept a doubleheader on the 9th before BC bounced back with a win in the series finale on the shoulder of Jessica Dreswick.

Storyline: This could well be a de facto elimination game for both teams, as they look to both punch their ticket to the ACC semifinals and secure a spot in the 64-team NCAA tournament field. For Boston College, they're swimming in unfamiliar waters; this is the highest BC softball has ever finished in the ACC, and they have not made the NCAA tournament since 2003. In order to have a realistic chance of making the NCAA field, they need to win today.

Pitching Matchup: Kendra Lynch has carried the load for UNC this season, going 26-16 with a 3.83 ERA. BC has used a two-headed monster in the circle: Allyson Frei (16-13, 2.84 ERA) and Jessica Dreswick (14-7, 2.42 ERA) will likely both pitch.3

What's Next for the Winner: #1 FSU plays #8 Pitt in the early game at 11 AM; the winner of BC/UNC takes on the winner of FSU/Pitt in tomorrow's semifinal at 1 PM.
