Boston College Soccer Knocked Out of NCAA Tournament

No Elite 8 run this year; Albany takes down Eagles

After a run to the Elite 8 last year and an exciting win in the first round of the tournament, Boston College traveled to Albany on Sunday with high hopes of another deep tournament push. Unfortunately, it was not to be, as the Eagles were flattened by Albany, 3-0, in the Round of 32.

BC made a habit of winning games despite getting outshot in last year's postseason; they were on the flip side of that on Sunday, outshooting Albany 14-13 in the loss. BC had a lot of the early pressure, but Bernardo Mattos scored for Albany on a corner kick at 11:08. Albany added another before the half, then salted it away with a goal by Afonso Pinheiro with just under 8 minutes to play in the second half.

BC ends the season 9-9-3. They'll have to deal with some key departures after this season, with 4 seniors graduating - including Zeiko Lewis, who broke the all time school assists record and had all of BC's goals in the postseason. They will have to re-tool in the offseason in order to continue the program’s long run of success under coach Ed Kelly.
