The Boston College men's soccer team earned the eighth and final berth to this year's 2013 ACC Men's Soccer Championship, drawing a quarterfinals matchup against No. 5 Maryland. BC will travel to College Park on Tuesday with the contest played at 7 p.m. on Ludwig Field.
Earlier this season, freshman Zeiko Lewis scored in the 75th minute but No. 8 Maryland held on for a 2-1 victory at Ludwig Field. The Terps finished the regular season with a conference best 7-1-3 record (24 points) to earn the Championship's number 1 seed. Despite dropping the regular season finale to Virginia in OT, Boston College clinched the eighth and final Championship berth with a 4-6-1 conference record (13 points), edging out N.C. State (3-5-3, 12).
N.C. State, Syracuse (3-7-1, 10), Virginia Tech (1-5-5, 8) and Pittsburgh (0-9-2, 2) failed to qualify for this year's Championship.
Boston College is 8-6-1 all-time in the ACC Tournament and 1-2-0 against Maryland, though the one win came in 2011 as the seventh-seeded Eagles won at Ludwig, 2-1. BC would advance all the way to the championship final before falling to top-seeded and eventual National Champion North Carolina, 3-1.
The Eagles have advanced to the conference tournament semifinals in five of the last six seasons. Boston College is going to need to do that and more -- possibly win the tournament outright -- if it hopes to get back to the NCAA Tournament this season.
