Congratulations to the Boston College women's soccer team, a 2-0 winner over Hofstra in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Senior Kristen Mewis notched a goal and an assist, her seventh multiple-point game of the season, to lead the Eagles past the Pride. Mewis now has 40 points, the second highest single season point total in Boston College history.
Stephanie McCaffrey opened up the scoring at 11:35, a career high 10th goal of the season. The goal was also McCaffrey's third game-winner of the year. Boston College keeper Alexa Gaul made four saves in the victory as the Eagles improve to 11-7-2 on the year.
How's this for consistency under head coach Alison Foley? The win marked the fifth straight season Boston College has won a first round NCAA Tournament game. The Eagles have knocked off Hofstra (2-0), Marist (6-1), Boston University (2-1), Harvard (1-0) and Central Connecticut State (3-0) in the first round of each of the last five NCAA Tournaments. BC last lost in the NCAA Tournament's first round back in 2007 -- a 5-4 penalty kick loss to Connecticut after a scoreless 110 minutes. The victory also marked the 19th NCAA Tournament win in program history.
