Congratulations to Boston College sailing's Erika Reineke, who won the ICSA Women's Singlehanded National Sailing Championship this past weekend in Newport, R.I. Via bceagles.com:

Boston College's Erika Reineke won the ICSA Women's Singlehanded National Sailing Championship this past weekend in Newport, R.I. The Eagles sophomore defended her title as she won the event as a freshman.

Reineke became the second BC women's sailor to repeat as a national champion, as Annie Haeger '12 completed the feat in her freshman and sophomore seasons.

Reineke, a native of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, was in third after day one. Arielle DeLisser from Hobart/William Smith led the race. On Saturday, Reineke moved into first place by 10 points as the sailors worked through brisk temps in the 40's and a westerly breeze that went W/SW in the afternoon.

On the final day of competition, Reineke pulled away from the competition as she posted 49 points in the championship. The closest to Reineke was DeLisser with 69 points.

Reineke was an All-American skipper and NEISA Rookie of the Year honors last season. BC senior Carolyn Naughton placed 13th in the competition.

Here's Boston College sailing coach Greg Wilkerson talking about Reineke's performance.

Congratulations Erika!
