The Boston College men's lacrosse season starts this week when they open their season on a road trip and will face the reigning champion Colorado Buffaloes. I caught up with assistant coach Dan Hettler to discuss the season.

Marisa: How do you feel about the season starting?

Dan: Couldn't be more excited for the season to get going. We had a great start in the fall but it's been tough lately with all of the snow we've been getting, making practice times and field availability harder to come by. We have an extremely talented and dedicated group of guys that have been committed to our system and making the best of what we have. We're counting down the days to February 28th to get a chance to go against someone other than ourselves.

Marisa: What kind of expectations are there starting the season as the #8 team?

Dan: Being ranked in the top 10 going into the season is great. Nothing really matters till we get outside and play though. We're ready to get out and show everyone who we are and where we're going.

Marisa: How tough is this west coast trip?

Dan: Starting out west is as tough as it gets. Between traveling, playing three games in three days and dealing with other logistics, we're facing two teams in the Top 5. We're eager to get out and go up against some of the best talent in the MCLA and set the tone for the rest of the season.

Marisa: What's it like to start against the defending champions?

Dan: We're going to approach them as if we were playing any other team. There is no doubt that they are a very talented and strong team. We're going to play our game and get after them with everything we've been working on over the past few months. We have a deep bench and a lot of talent that's capable of playing with anyone out there. This is going to be a great game and test to the start our season.

Marisa: Who do you expect to stand out this season?

Dan: There is a handful of guys I'm looking forward to standing out this year, but I'm excited to see Senior Captain, Joey Volk, step up and finish his career with a successful year. He's a phenomenal player and leader both on and off the field.
