Ahhhh... Hockey's back, everyone. It felt like months, but it was just two weeks.
Often with the long layoff, you're worried about the team coming out a little rusty. For the Eagles, though, any rust would be more than canceled out by having Colin White and Chris Calnan rested, healed, and back on the ice. With a full complement of skaters for the first time in months, the Eagles came out strong and took a 3-0 shutout win over Vermont to open up the postseason.
Boston College Goal #1 (GWG): 4:14 of the 1st period
Adam Gilmour (Austin Cangelosi, Miles Wood)
BC 1, UVM 0
BC controlled play all throughout the first period, but it was awful defense from the Catamounts that allowed BC to open the scoring.
Off the faceoff, Gilmour on the wing sort of goes after the puck before it's sent back behind the net. With a white jersey already on its way to gain possession, Gilmour does what anyone would do and look for some open space to give them someone to pass to.
There's plenty of space, alright. Vermont loses track of the front of the net where GIlmour's set up shop. He can pick his corner and shoot, giving BC the 1-0 lead.
Boston College Goal #2: 10:58 of the 1st period
Austin Cangelosi (Adam Gilmour)
BC 2, UVM 0
More fail from Vermont.
This time the goal is on Santaguida. The Vermont goaltender goes behind the net to gather in the puck, but he doesn't realize that his one green-clad ally has two BC skaters bearing down on him.
Santaguida leaves the puck and realizes how much pressure there is, but Cangelosi already has the puck and is going to the front to throw the it into the vacated net. Santaguida can't get back nearly in time and gets burned.
Boston College Goal #3 (PPG): 3:20 of the 2nd period
Ryan Fitzgerald (Austin Cangelosi, Adam Gilmour)
BC 3, UVM 0 -- FINAL
It just wasn't a very good night for Santaguida. It's hard to tell based on the camera angles, but this was a really soft goal for him to give up.
BC passes the puck in deep and Fitzgerald The Elder just puts the puck on net, and Santaguida lets it slip right through and into the net.
That sent him to the showers early as the Catamounts put in freshman Packy Munson to play the rest of the game, and to his credit, Munson didn't give up a goal the rest of the game. It earned him some playing time, at least for one more night.
Packy Munson will get the start tomorrow over Santaguida.

And that was that. Ian McCoshen took a game misconduct late in the game that briefly sent the twitterverse into a tizzy thinking he may miss Game 2, but unless the league reviews and issues some supplemental discipline, he should be alright.
BC is now just one win away from the TD Garden and the Hockey East semifinals. Game Two is Saturday at 7pm.
