On the strength of two goals by Austin Cangelosi, the Boston College Eagles defeated the Denver Pioneers 3-1 in the consolation game of the IceBreaker tournament - a HUGE early season non conference win for a young BC team taking on a team that’s among the favorites to make this year’s Frozen Four.
The Eagles were dealt a tough hand having to face Denver on their home rink in the third place game and they responded brilliantly. BC played Denver pretty much evenly through two periods, but had to really cling in the third as Denver poured on the pressure, outshooting BC 23-5 in the third period.
BC went 7-for-8 on the PK - including three successful kills in the third - to lock down the victory.
Austin Cangelosi netted his second goal of the game, an empty netter, in the final minute to seal the deal for the Eagles.
David Cotton secured the game winner in the second period, tipping home a goal assisted by Chris Brown. Brown, a sophomore, had two assists in BC’s win.
Freshman goalie Joe Woll came up huge, making 40 saves on 41 shots.
BC plays Wisconsin in a two game set next weekend, and will head back to Boston pretty dang content to have come home with a win against a top tier team.
