Eagles split the weekend series

Boston College picked up a split in the weekend series at Wisconsin, topping the Badgers 8-5 on Sunday in Madison. The win gave Jerry York career victory #1014 and improved the Eagles to 2-2-0 on the young season.

Chris Brown picked up a hat trick for BC on a huge day for the offense, which had struggled through the first three games.

Matt Gaudreau, Julius Mattila, and David Cotton added the other non-empty-net goals for BC. Cotton’s goal just 10 seconds in to the game set the tone for the Eagles, who never trailed and were never tied up after their early lead.

BC jumped out to leads of 2-0 and 6-2, but the Badgers kept battling back - making BC sweat by closing in to within one late in the third period. However, a pair of empty net goals by BC’s super stars, Ryan Fitzgerald and Colin White, extended BC’s lead to 8-5 and secured the win.

The Eagles now come home .500 at 2-2 - a pretty acceptable mark for a four-game road swing. Now BC has three straight games in Massachusetts - their home opener against CC is Friday night before traveling to Holy Cross next Saturday night at the DCU Center. After that, BC takes on Merrimack in their Hockey East opener in North Andover.

But first thing’s first - time for BC to get over .500 on Friday, after a big road win today.
