A surge in the last ten minutes was not enough, as Boston College hockey fell behind 3-0 en route to a 3-1 loss to the Wisconsin Badgers on Friday night in Madison.
BC looked lifeless until halfway through the third period, when JD Dudek responded to Wisconsin’s third goal with his first tally of the season, assisted by Chris Calnan. Dudek’s goal prompted a surge by BC, coming close on a few occasions to making it 3-2 - but they were never able to do so. BC took a penalty with 3 minutes left that basically ended their chances.
Special teams defined the first two periods. Grant Besse scored a first period power play goal for Wisconsin, and Ryan Wagner added another PPG with :12 left in the second period. BC’s power play struggled, going 0-for-6 - continuing a negative trend early in the season.
Seamus Malone’s third period goal for Wisco essentially sealed the deal.
BC and Wisconsin get back at it on Sunday at 4 PM on ESPNU.
