With only a month until hockey is back (finally), get to know BC's starting goalie, Thatcher Demko!
#30, Thatcher Demko, Goaltender
Class Year: Junior
Height: 6'4''
Weight: 195
Hometown: San Diego, CA
Before BC:
Played with the U.S. National Under-18 team and the Omaha Lancers (USHL).
Fun facts:
- With the U-18 Team, Demko registered an 8-2-3 record against college programs, including a win against future Hockey East rival Merrimack.
- Demko was drafted 36th overall by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2014 NHL Draft.
2014-2015 in review:
Demko started 35 games for the Eagles last season, missing 2 games in January to compete in the World Junior Championship. Demko improved on his freshman stats of a 2.24 goals against average and a .919 save percentage, recording a 2.19 goals against average and a .925 save percentage during the 2014-15 season. Demko recorded his 3rd career shutout and fourth career assist last season, and saved a career best 41 shots on 12/13/14 against Michigan.
2015-2016 outlook:
Demko is spent the summer recovering from much needed hip surgery, which should help his overall performance this season. There were a few scary moments for BC fans last season where collisions resulted in clear hip pain for Demko, and we're glad to see him healthy again. Demko is a really solid goaltender with the ability to make some amazing saves, so as long as he stays healthy and confident, he should have a great season.
