NCAA Hockey Tournament - Northeast Regional Final
#2-seed Boston College Eagles (27-7-5, #5 in the Pairwise rankings) vs.
#4-seed Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs (19-15-5, #14 in the Pairwise rankings)
Quick Preview
In 2012, BC faced off against Minnesota-Duluth at Worcester's DCU Center with a trip to Tampa and the Frozen Four on the line. On Saturday night, history will repeat itself, as the Eagles will battle the Bulldogs again, looking for a similar result (the Eagles won 4-0 on that day) and the same destination.
Odds are it won't be easy. Minnesota-Duluth comes in hot, winners of 11 of their last 15, NCHC finalists, and fresh off an upset 2OT victory over the #1 seed Providence College Friars on Friday night in Worcester.
In their win over PC, UMD demonstrated the two hallmarks that have made them so good. The first is puck possession. They took 103 shot attempts to PC's 72, and their CF% remains #2 in the nation at a strong 57.4%. The other is stifling team defense, Their team goals against average is now #8 in the country at 2.03, and they've only allowed more than two goals twice in their last 13.
Venue
BC advances to their sixth straight regional final at Worcester's DCU Center. The Eagles won the previous five, and will look to continue to make Worcester a springboard to the Frozen Four for them.
Game Time
The puck is scheduled to drop at 9 PM Eastern Time, and since it's the only game at the DCU Center tomorrow night, it should go off on time. Of course, it's pretty silly that ESPN set this game up to be at 9 PM ET, particularly the night before Easter Sunday. We'll see what kind of impact that has on the gate.
