6 shutouts in 7 games

Another game against struggling Maine, another game full of post-whistle scuffles, and another shutout for Thatcher Demko.

It was a disjointed game for the Eagles bookended by a goal early and a goal late as BC completed a sweep of the Black Bears by a score of 2-0.

Boston College Goal #1 (GWG): 11:53 of the 1st period
Ryan Fitzgerald (Matty Gaudreau, Colin White)

BC 1, UMO 0

Ryan Fitzgerald, fresh off his time-out on Friday from the one game suspension, gets the scoring started for BC on this low shot through a screen.

For all we know, Maine goalie Rob McGovern may still not know where the puck is. There are at least 3 players blocking his line of sight. It's amazing the puck got through at all.

Boston College Goal #2 (PPG): 13:53 of the 3rd period
Miles Wood (Coline White, Austin Cangelosi)

BC 2, UMO 0 -- FINAL

Just like Friday, Maine gummed up the ice for much of the game and BC couldn't get the killshot until the third period. Sunday, BC struggled on the power play for much of the game, including on a 5 on 3 for over a minute that they couldn't convert.

But the did finally cash in late in the third period. It's a greasy goal, with White throwing the puck on net and Wood getting a stick on it while being taken to the ice, but with Demko being all-world in the other net, that effectively put the game away.

Later on, it got chippy again.

Maine goalie Rob McGovern got in on the action with a 2+10, and because of the 10 minute misconduct, he had to serve his own penalty:

Hilarious.

So BC held on for the 2-0 win, but Maine would not go into the night quietly, finally finding their way into the net.

That's Maine's Nolan Vesey. Vesey went full scumbag after the whistle, going up to Demko and spearing him.

Ryan Fitzgerald and Ian McCoshen would have absolutely none of that, taking down Vesey with a nice tackle into Demko's net. Vesey got a 5 minute major for spearing plus a game misconduct, and is probably looking at a suspension for Maine's next game.

Who goes up to a goalie who is literally surrounded by his teammates and spears him? You must have a death wish.

Next up is Michigan State for a one-off game Friday night. Hopefully Teddy Doherty will be back from his shoulder separation by then, but otherwise at least it's nice that there's just one game to worry about over the weekend.
