We are in the final day before BC hockey season, so there's one player left to Get To Know... freshman goaltender Chris Birdsall.
#1, Chris Birdsall, Goaltender
Class Year: Freshman
Height: 6'0''
Weight: 180
Hometown: Glen Rock, NJ
Before BC:
Played in the USHL, first for the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders and then for the Youngstown Phantoms.
Fun facts:
BC's last #1 was Brian Billett, also a goaltender who graduated last season.
Won a gold medal with the USA at the 2014 World Junior A Challenge
2014-2015 in review:
After two shaky seasons in the USHL with a sub .900 save percentage, Birdsall broke out a bit in year three, posting one of the league's top 5 overall statistical seasons with a sv% of .914 and a goals against average of 2.46 with the Youngstown Phantoms. He played in 32 games for Youngstown.
2015-2016 outlook:
Birdsall will be the backup goalie this year, and as such will presumably see some playing time. It's still TBD if Demko is ready right away to play both games this weekend to start the year, but even if he is, expect to see Birdsall for at least a couple of games throughout the season. Despite his struggles in the exhibition game BC will look to Birdsall for solid play as a #2 goalie and to potentially make his case for the starter's job whenever Demko leaves.
