5 Days Til BC Hockey: Get To Know #5, Casey Fitzgerald

#5 is one of two freshmen defensemen for the coming season

Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

These days aren't ticking off as quickly as they should.

#5 Casey Fitzgerald - Defenseman

Class Year: Sophomore
Height: 5'11''
Weight: 185
Hometown: North Reading, MA

Before BC:

Fitzgerald won the gold medal with the USA U18 team, and was a member of the USA U17 team as well. Prior to that, he played two seasons with Malden Catholic.

Fun facts:

- Yes, junior Ryan Fitzgerald is Casey's brother.
- The last time a BC team did not have a player who also had a brother as an Eagle was the 1996-1997 season. Since then, there has been at least one Fitzgerald, Gaudreau, Hayes, Atkinson, Whitney, Orpik, Greene, Adams, Eaves, or Gionta playing for the Eagles.

2014-2015 in review:

Fitzgerald had the highest +/- on Team USA at the U18 world championships and put up a goal and 3 assists in the tournament as well.

2015-2016 outlook:

If BC as a weakness this year it's going to be depth on the blue line. Fitzgerald and Couturier are going to have to replace Mike Matheson and Noah Hanifin. They won't do that, clearly. But Fitzgerald has a national team pedigree and should adjust to the college game very quickly. With McCoshen, Doherty, and Santini as BC's "big three" defenseman, I would expect Fitzgerald to slot in as the fourth D, playing with the second pairing.

Highlights:

I wasn't able to find anything for the freshman on YouTube -- hopefully we have plenty of GIFs we can pull up for him next year.
