On a night filled with more Hobey Baker disappointment, a pair of Eagles took home some individual accolades.
Boston College sophomore Johnny Gaudreau and senior Steven Whitney earned American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) All-America East first-team honors, the organization announced on Friday.
Gaudreau, powered by Skittles and Mountain Dew, was a Hobey Baker Award Hat Trick finalist, the Hockey East Player of the Year and a unanimous All-Hockey East first-team selection as a sophomore. He recorded a team-high 51 points - 21 goals and 30 assists - in 35 games, leading the nation with a 1.46 points per game average. The Carneys Point, New Jersey native was a fourth round (104th overall) selection of the Calgary Flames in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
Whitney notched 45 points - 26 goals and 19 assists - in 38 games as a senior. The Walter Brown Award winner ranked second in the nation in goal scoring. He led the league in assists, power play goals (8) and plus-minus (+23). The Reading, Mass. native signed a free-agent contract with the Anaheim Ducks on April 4 and has already potted two goals in as many games for the AHL's Norfolk Admirals.
BC finished the 2012-13 season with a 22-12-4 record, including a 15-9-3 conference mark. The Eagles won at least 20 games for the 14th time in 16 years.
