Started from the bottom, now we’re... well, we’re here, at the bottom, but we’re coming!
The delayed Week 2 release of the AP and Coaches Polls (thanks to Oklahoma and Notre Dame playing games on Sunday and Monday this past week) was worth the wait for the Eagles, as now both polls feature Boston College football receiving votes. BC is receiving 1 vote in the AP poll after being omitted in the preseason poll, and 10 votes in the Coaches Poll — up from 5 last week. That places BC at the 38th most votes in the AP and 37th in the Coaches.
Virginia Tech, expected to have a solid rebound year thanks to a wealth of returning starters, received several votes in both preseason polls but dropped out entirely for today’s release after their Week 1 loss to the Eagles. Hopefully the Hokies bounce back well and make BC’s win look even better as the season goes on.
The Eagles didn’t get too much help from teams above them in the rankings, as teams in the AP Top 25 went 23-0 against unranked teams. But with BC coming up on several games that should see Addazio’s squad favored, the pressure will be on to keep up the momentum, rack up the early season wins, avoid a WTF loss, and hopefully crack into the Top 25 with a little help from some losses above them sometime in the next few weeks.
