Notre Dame installed as 13 point favorite over Boston College

Holy War kicks off Saturday at 3:30 at BC

This week was always going to go one of two ways for Boston College fans. If the Eagles took care of business at home, topped a peer program in Wake Forest, and rode a 2-0 record into the Notre Dame game, there’d be considerable excitement about the possibility of giving the Irish a run for their money after being on the wrong end of this matchup five times in a row.

After Saturday’s disastrous home opener, however, the feeling is more trepidation than excitement.

It’s going to take a major reversal in fortunes for Steve Addazio to land a signature win over Notre Dame, and the books recognize the Eagles as significant home underdogs, with the betting line set somewhere between Notre Dame -13 and Notre Dame -13.5 depending on the sportsbook.

Notre Dame is coming off a heartbreaking 20-19 home loss to Georgia - a close loss against a quality, ranked opponent.

It’s hard not to feel like the odds will be very much stacked against the Eagles this weekend. BC’s defense is ranked 54th nationally through two games this year - early days, yes, but a far cry from the defense that played out of its mind and kept BC in the game against Notre Dame two seasons ago while the offense puttered along.

We’ll see if they can surprise us and Vegas by making Saturday’s game a contest.
