Boston College wide receiver coach Todd Fitch has decided to move on from the Eagles, and has accepted a new job according to a report written today by Rivals.com
Sources tell BleedTechBlue.com Skip Holtz is hiring Boston College wide receivers coach Todd Fitch as Louisiana Tech's next wide receivers coach and offensive coordinator. Holtz will still call the plays for the Bulldogs
Fitch and Holtz go way back coaching together at multiple stops including at ECU and Southern Florida.
Boston College had the league's worst offense in 2015, averaging 17 points a game, and a paltry 275 yards per game. At the end of the season, Steve Addazio decided to move on from offensive coordinator Todd Fitch, hiring Scot Loeffler the former Virginia Tech offensive coordinator. Fitch was removed from the OC role and re-assigned back to wide receiver coach. Though nothing was ever said about it, you had to wonder how a demotion would sit with a coach who had years of experience.
As noted in the article Fitch was the offensive coordinator for ECU and Southern Florida before he came to Boston College. Probably the hardest part of losing Fitch was his recruiting connections in Florida. He was BC's primary recruiter in the area, and helped to bring in Florida guys such as Ty Schwab, Wyatt Knopke, Jeff Smith and most recently Hamp Cheevers.
Where will BC look for a wide receivers coach? That remains to be seen. Brian White coached them last year, but he was moved to running backs coach at the end of the season. BC may need to look outside the school to fill the role, or they could ask someone on the current staff to double up on positions. Given the need to recruit in Florida, I'd bet they need to make another hire.
Best of luck in the future, Coach Fitch.
