After months of debate, according to an ESPN report it appears that Boston College and Georgia Tech is officially a go:
The ACC opener will be held in Aviva Stadium on Sept. 3, 2016, with kickoff at 7:30 a.m. ET (12:30 p.m. in Ireland), sources said. The game will be televised on an ESPN network.
This report is by Brett McMurphy, who usually doesn't get things wrong, so I think it's fair to say that this game is basically a lock for the 2016 schedule.
There was a lot of back and forth going on with this game, at one point BC/GT seemed like a logical lock, but then in April a report came out that the Gaelic Football Association had pulled the plug on the game due to the value of the US dollar versus the Euro. But all along it appeared that this game was going to happen, there must have been some logistical work that needed to be done.
This game is going to count as a home game for BC, which means that BC currently have four home games at Alumni Stadium. They will have games against UMass, Clemson, Louisville and Syracuse. They still have two slots available for out of conference games, which most likely will include a home game against an FCS squad. That final game, hopefully against a Power 5 opponent remains the big question.
Hopefully many BC fans will be able to make the trip. For a historically Irish Catholic Institution this game might be a perfect reason for those who have never visited. Also Ireland is a great destination, and could be a great selling point on the recruiting trail.
So, who is ready for some Guinness and fish and chips?
