Boston College Football: Get To Know The Dudes - #55, LB Christian Lezzer

A look at a freshman and how he may be able to help the Eagles this year.

BC Eagles Athletics

Name: Christian Lezzer

Position: Linebacker

Number: #55

Year: Freshman

Height: 6-foot-0

Weight: 210 lbs.

Hometown: Clearfield, PA

High School: Clearfield

2013 Stats (HS): Earned first-team All-State honors twice ... was named to the first-team offensive all-Conference team three times and the first-team defensive all-conference team twice ... distinguished as the Tri-County Paper Player of the Year, as well as the Progress Paper Player of the Year twice ... received an invitation to the Chesapeake Bowl ... notched 56 tackles, 2.5 sacks, three interceptions, one fumble recovery and one safety in 2013 after finishing 2012 with 52 tackles, 12.5 sacks and four fumble recoveries (via bceagles.com)

2014 Projections: As I mentioned in Connor Strachan's preview, there is quite a bit of quality depth for the Eagles at the linebacker position. Sean Duggan, Tim Joy, Steven Daniels, Mike Strizak and Josh Keyes are all returning and will be seeing plenty of playing time. However if god forbid there is an injury, one of the multitude of freshmen LB's on the team will be able to step in. However, barring that I would expect someone like Christian to redshirt to save his eligibility.

How'd He Get Here: A three star recruit from Pennsylvania, Lezzer chose Boston College over claimed offers from Arizona, Bucknell, Kent State, Rutgers, Temple and Towson.

Uniform History: The first player to wear it was Edward Sullivan a tackle from Watertown, MA who wore it in 1945. Two captains wore the number in as well, both centers, Fred Kaumetz and George Larkin. Bill Chaplick, an All East center for the Eagles from 1976-1979 wore it, before moving on as head football coach at Milford Academy. John Galvin a linebacker during the Doug Flutie years, who went on to a four year career in the NFL with the Jets and Vikings wore #55.  More recently you might have seen linebacker Ricky Brown, who won the 2005 Scanlan Award before a career with the Oakland Raiders and New England Patriots. Damik Scafe and Kieran Borcich wore it most recently.

On why he chose BC: "Making my commitment official was definitely a huge weight off my shoulders. Now I can just focus on the rest of my senior year and getting in shape for when I head to BC at the end of June.
"I had some other really great offers that I'm thankful for, but for me, BC offered an academic side to it that was huge. It's a perfect fit for me, both athletically and academically in one of the best conferences in the country, the ACC."

On his perceived role this season: "The thing with redshirting is if you can play right away you will," Lezzer said of his prospects of seeing playing time for the Eagles in the fall, "and if you can't, then they will redshirt you. I spoke with Coach Addazio and Coach (Don) Brown, and they fully expect me to come in ready to play in different packages. So, I guess we'll just have to wait and see."

Addazio on Lezzer: "Christian Lezzer is a throwback player. He plays all over the field and is tough and fast."
