Boston College, Steve Addazio Agree To New Deal Through 2020

The Head Dude is contracted for another six years...

Boston College and Steve Addazio have agreed to a new contract through 2020. The head dude is locked in for six more seasons.

"In just two years, Steve Addazio has done an amazing job with our football program," [Athletic Director Brad] Bates said. "To lead a team to 14 wins and two consecutive bowl games during what was supposed to be a rebuilding process is a great accomplishment. Beyond winning, he has worked tirelessly to recruit top-notch student-athletes and develop lasting relationships with former players and the entire University community. He is one of the best motivators I've ever been around, and his enthusiasm is infectious. We are very fortunate to have him as our coach."

Addazio originally signed a six-year deal back in 2012. The new deal locks him in for two more years. Boston College doesn't have to release the financial terms of the deal but Addazio is rumored to bring in $1.75 million this season as part of his original contract.

This is big news for a variety of reasons. By securing Addazio, this will add more security to the program; something that he and the coaching staff can sell to recruits. Recruits want to hear that a coach they are committing to is going to stay there, and having a coach under contract for six years definitely will keep those pitches positive. Opposing programs won't be able to use Addazio's name being floated for jobs against Boston College on the recruiting trail.

Secondly, this will stop all the nonsense about Addazio heading to Michigan (which wasn't going to happen in the first place). The terms of what a buyout would entail haven't been released, but you have to imagine that a coach like Addazio -- who would be a reach in the first place for a program like U-M -- wouldn't be worth the payout to grab him from Boston College.

Clearly Brad Bates believes that Addazio is the future of the program, and based off the first two years, that future is bright. Congratulations Coach Addazio. The gang at BC Interruption is excited to see what you will bring to the program in the future.
