Boston College Vs. Wake Forest: Eagles Open As A 3-Point Favorite Over The Deacons

Boston College opens as a 3-point favorite in week 2 as they host Wake Forest on Friday night.

With Villanova now in Boston College's rearview mirror, it's time for the Eagles to shift attention to #TheRivalry and their week 2 opponent, the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.

The Vegas oddmakers expect a pretty close game as the Wynn Las Vegas has installed Boston College as a three-point home favorite this Friday night. In other words, a pick'em on a neutral field. Wake Forest is coming off a 31-7 drubbing of the FCS' Presbyterian Blue Hose on Thursday night, while BC shook off a sluggish first half to shut down Villanova en route to a 24-14 victory.

The Deacons have played the Eagles tough in some of the most competitive and entertaining games since Boston College joined the ACC in 2005 and the recent point spreads reflect that.

2012: Wake Forest 28, Boston College 14 (WFU -3.5)
2011: Wake Forest 27, Boston College 19 (WFU +1)
2010: Boston College 23, Wake Forest 13 (BC -3.5)
2009: Boston College 27, Wake Forest 24 (OT) (BC -1)
2008: Boston College 24, Wake Forest 21 (No line)
2007: Boston College 38, Wake Forest 28 (BC -6)
2006: Wake Forest 21, Boston College 14 (WFU +3.5)
2005: Boston College 35, Wake Forest 30 (WFU +13.5)
2004: Wake Forest 17, Boston College 14 (WFU +1)
2003: Wake Forest 32, Boston College 28 (WFU +11)

Only twice over the past 10 seasons has either team been favored by double digits. Both times Wake covered the spread. The Deacons have covered six of the last nine point spreads in the series, including each of the last two games -- both Wake Forest victories.

Other early week 2 lines of note:

-- North Carolina is a 21 1/2 point favorite at home against Middle Tennessee State
-- Syracuse is a 10 1/2 point road dog at Northwestern
-- Army is an 11 point road dog at Ball State
-- New Mexico State is an 18 1/2 underdog as the Aggies host visiting Minnesota
-- USC is a 16 1/2 point favorite at home against Washington State

No lines on the Clemson (South Carolina State), Virginia Tech (Western Carolina), Maryland (Old Dominion), N.C. State (Richmond) games as the Eagles' remaining 2013 opponents all play FCS opponents in week 2.
