"(Bowl eligibility) just feels really good. That's all I can really say. To be part of a team like this. Each and every week is a battle." -Tyler Murphy

Boston College head coach Steve Addazio Opening Statement...

It's great to sit here and be 6-3. Our football team is really battling. We had 368 yards of offense. They had 414. It was one of those back and forth games. We're bowl eligible now."

Addazio on Alex Howell's 44-yard field goal...

It was a low one but it had distance. I made my mind up that that's what we were going to do. He has a great leg but he hasn't been accurate, but I made the decision that we were going to go for it.

Addazio on the run game...

With that defense, it's hard to consistently run the ball well. It wasn't consistent but we had a couple of big ones and that's how it goes against this type of defense.

Addazio on Marcus Outlow...

Jon Hilliman was hurt and we felt like we needed a fresh guy out there. Marcus stepped up and really played well.

Addazio on shutting down Virginia Tech's running game...

We did an unbelievably great job shutting down the run. They rushed for 69 yards. Brewer did well. He's a competitive guy and he made a lot of plays. Most of them were throws. That doesn't come easy. Our defense was playing hard. That was a readl football game. That was a batlle.

Addazio on Virginia Tech's fake punt play...

I did a poor job. If I had to do that over again, I would have put punt-safe in the game. That's the call I should've made and I didn't make it.

Addazio on BC's blocked field goal...

It ended up being huge because it was such a back and forth game. That was just getting your hands up and being fortunate.

Boston College QB Tyler Murphy on being bowl eligible...

It just feels really good. That's all I can really say. To be part of a team like this - each and every week is a battle. It's never easy. Guys just stick together, rally around one another and just find a way to pull out wins. When I first got here I could feel that and sense that and I just started believing that we could have a good team. We could really do something special. The season is not over yet. We still have three games and we are headed in the right direction. My goal was to come here and help this program grow. They were 7-6 last year and my goal was to come here, find a way to get back to a bowl game, and try to get eight wins, if not more. I am just trying to help this program develop to get in the right direction and guys are just making it easy.

Murphy on his 57-yard touchdown run on Third-and-10...

Coach called my number and I just felt really confident that my offensive line was going to get the job done. We always talk about getting to the fourth quarter and imposing our will on teams and [the offensive line] just opened it up and make it easy for me to find a hole. Josh [Bordner] led me through the hole with a good block. It was just up to me to find the end zone. It parted like the Red Sea. My job was easy; just don't get caught. You got to give the guys up front, Josh, and the guys blocking downfield a lot of credit.

Murphy on the program's mentality...

The team was just working so hard so I wanted to battle through and leave it all out on the field and score. This team, this program, and this institution deserves it. Like I said, each and ever week, we battle and fight. It just goes to show you the character and culture of Boston College. It's a program that does things the right way and is going to battle to succeed. I couldn't be more proud of my teammates and happy for opportunity.

Murphy on working the run game against Virginia Tech...

We were hoping to try to get the run game established but we knew it was going to be difficult. We tried to take some shots and open things up. We were able to hit a few throws and get a few explosive plays in the run game. We know it was going to be tough. They did a great job of stopping the run against Ohio State and we are a similar team so we know it would be tough. Coach just said to keep battling; we'll break one or two. We just did that and the offensive line did a great job. That is a great defense. Bud Foster is one of the best defensive coordinators in the history of college football in my opinion. He does a great job with those guys and they are very talented; they are very fast and physical. We had a lot of one-on-one chances and they did a good job of wrapping us up. It was difficult but we just kept fighting.

Murphy on connecting on the red zone passing touchdowns...

We've had those plays in for a while and we've never really gotten to it because we've been so successful running the ball in the red zone. We knew that with a good run-stop defense like Virginia Tech, they were going to pin our ears back and we were going to have to go over the top if we were going to be successful. We were able to do some things off the play-action fake, bait them. Charlie [Callinan] did a great job of beating his man and getting open and Marcus [Outlow] did a great job of finding the hole. Guys did a great job of getting open and it was my job to get it to them. This will help us down the road with the run game.

Virginia Tech head coach Frank Beamer opening remarks...

Really proud of our football team, proud of how these kids play, we're a team that's not good enough to make terrible mistakes field position wise and that got us a little bit. I think we are getting there. We have to keep moving in a positive direction. We gave it a great effort, there was no quit. We needed a few more plays a little bit better execution and we would have it. We're going to keep getting better. We will for sure keep getting better.

Two plays defensively wore us out, you take that away. We are close enough to get there, but we are there. I won't tell you that we are there now, but we are working at it and will get there if we put the effort forth to get there.

We had too many drives that started on the one yard line. We tried to put some heat on him to get the ball out of there, kick him out of sync. That's a hard place to start from (one-yard line.

The wind, I thought, we needed to back in it. The longer the game goes and if you are not back in it then it gets tighter and tighter. So I thought that we needed to get back in it and ahead in the third quarter.

Beamer on his team's 4th-and-five conversion...

We had two timeouts, we were going to get the ball back if we held them. We would have over two minutes. The problem was we didn't get a great punt so that hurt us.

Beamer on the fake punt...

Fourth and ten is a little too far and it was over there on the right hash but it worked well. We needed a spark there, we needed something so that worked.

Beamer on the possibility of a three-game losing streak...

The thing I point through is that our kids are giving great effort, we are getting better. This game was better than last week, and these last six quarters they have played very well. When everything is going great, it's easy to get out there and jump around, but when things aren't going great you see what kind of team you are.
