Boston College (5-3, 2-2 ACC) is in search of that sixth win to become bowl eligible, looking to do just that with a trip to Blacksburg to take on the Virginia Tech Hokies (4-4, 1-3 ACC). If the opening line at the Wynn Las Vegas is any indication, the Eagles may be waiting another week to punch their postseason bowl ticket.
Early week 10 college football betting lines are out and the Eagles find themselves a slight 5-point road underdog this weekend in Blacksburg.
Last season, Boston College notched a huge 34-27 victory over the Hokies to stop a five-game skid against their Coastal Division permanent cross-over rivals dating back to the 2008 ACC Championship Game in Tampa, Florida.
Here are the results from the last 10 games in the series:
2013: Boston College 34, Virginia Tech 27 (BC +4)
2012: Virginia Tech 30, Boston College 23 (OT) (BC +10)
2011: Virginia Tech 30, Boston College 14 (BC +21)
2010: Virginia Tech 19, Boston College 0 (VT -3.5)
2009: Virginia Tech 48, Boston College 14 (VT -13.5)
2008: Virginia Tech 30, Boston College 12 (VT -1)
2008: Boston College 28, Virginia Tech 23 (BC -3)
2007: Virginia Tech 30, Boston College 16 (VT -5)
2007: Boston College 14, Virginia Tech 10 (BC +3)
2006: Boston College 22, Virginia Tech 3 (BC +2.5)
Overall, Virginia Tech owns a 15-7 record in the all-time series, including a 5-4 edge in the ACC regular season series (but 2-0 in conference championship games). The Hokies are coming off a 30-6 home loss to Miami; the program's third loss at home this season. Virginia Tech has only managed two wins at home this season -- a 34-9 victory over FCS William & Mary and a 35-17 win over Western Michigan.
Other week 10 lines of note:
-- Florida State is just a 7-point road favorite at Louisville this week.
-- Syracuse is a 4.5-point home favorite as the Orange host N.C. State.
-- Pittsburgh is a 1.5-point home favorite as the Panthers host Duke in a critical ACC Coastal Division matchup.
-- Miami is an 11.5-point home favorite vs. North Carolina.
-- Georgia Tech is a 4-point favorite as the Yellow Jackets host Virginia.
-- Colorado State is a 7-point road favorite at San Jose State.
-- USC is a 8-point road favorite at Washington State.
