Boston College vs. USC Football: Eagles Host Top 10 USC On Saturday Night

The Eagles will face a top 10 outfit Saturday night on the Heights.

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

With a 13-10 road win over 13th ranked Stanford on Saturday, the USC Trojans (2-0, 1-0 Pac-12) have jumped into the top 10 of both the AP (#9) and Coaches (#10) poll this week. This Saturday will be the first home game against a top 10 opponent since ... well, last year, when BC hosted then no. 8/8 Florida State. The Eagles fell to the eventual National Champs, 48-34.

Boston College has lost eight straight home games over opponents ranked in the top 10 at game time. One has to go back nearly 20 years to find the last home victory over a top 10 opponent -- the 30-11 victory over #8/7 Notre Dame in 1994.

L - #8 Florida State 48, Boston College 34 (2013)
L - #4 Notre Dame 21, Boston College 6 (2012)
L - #8 Florida State 28, Boston College 17 (2005)
L - #2 Miami 33, Boston College 14 (2003)
L - #4 Virginia Tech 28, Boston College 23 (2002)
L - #1 Miami 18, Boston College 7 (2001)
L - #4 Virginia Tech 48, Boston College 34 (2000)
L - #9/11 Michigan 23, Boston College 13 (1995)
W - Boston College 30, #8/7 Notre Dame 11 (1994)
L - #5/3 West Virginia 17, Boston College 14 (1993)

Overall, BC has just five home wins over top 10 opponents in program history, and just three in the non-leather helmet era (a 14-13 win over #7 Texas in 1976 and a 21-14 win over #9 Syracuse in 1964 are the others). Steve Addazio is 0-4 all-time vs. ranked opponents and 0-2 vs. opponents ranked in the top 10 (both games coming during last season).

Other ACC / upcoming opponents in this week's polls: Florida State maintains the top spot in both polls after dispatching FCS The Citadel. Virginia Tech enters the poll at #17 (AP) and #19 (Coaches) after a big road win at Ohio State. Clemson (#23/#24) is ranked in both polls, while Louisville (#21) is ranked in the AP and North Carolina (#25) in the Coaches.
