It's game day, Eagles, as Boston College hosts their ACC Atlantic Division rivals, the Syracuse Orange, at Alumni Stadium on Senior Day (12:30 p.m.). The game will be televised by the ACC's Regional Sports Networks (NESN in New England). Wes Durham and James Bates are on the call.
Syracuse comes into the matchup with a record of 3-8 (1-6 ACC) and is coming off a listless performance against Pittsburgh. Second year coach Scott Shafer is 10-14 overall, 5-10 in the ACC.
The Eagles (6-5, 3-4 ACC) have played well down the stretch but have still lost two straight, including a close, 20-17 loss to #1 Florida State down in Tallahassee. BC QB Tyler Murphy leads all quarterbacks in rushing yards nationally with 1,059, and is just three yards away from breaking the ACC's single season QB rushing record.
Steve Addazio has his dudes bowling for a second straight season and is 13-11 overall and 7-8 in the ACC. Boston College will be looking to avenge last year's 34-31 loss to Syracuse in the Carrier Dome. With that victory, Syracuse became bowl eligible and would go on to win the Texas Bowl over Minnesota.
The ties between the two #OrangeEagle programs run deep. Addazio served as Syracuse's tight ends coach and assistant offensive line coach in 1995-96 and offensive line coach for the 1997-98 season under then coach Paul Pasqualoni. Addazio's son, Louie, was a member of the Syracuse football team in 2011-12 before transferring to BC in 2013. Reggie Terry, BC's Assistant Athletics Director of Football Operations & Player Personnel, was a linebacker at Syracuse from 1989-93.
This will be the 48th meeting between the two long-time Eastern independent and Big East foes in a rivalry that dates back to 1924. Syracuse owns a 29-18 edge in the all-time series, but is just 10-12 playing on the road against the Eagles. The Orange are one of four ACC programs that BC has not beaten as a member of the conference (Pittsburgh, Louisville and North Carolina the others).
