Boston College Football: Get To Know The Dudes - #49, LB Kevin Bletzer

Today, "Get to know" ... linebacker Kevin Bletzer.

Name: Kevin Bletzer

Position: Linebacker

Number: #49

Year: Freshman

Height: 6-foot-2

Weight: 198 lbs.

Hometown: West Roxbury, MA

High School: Catholic Memorial

2013 Stats (HS): Twice served as team co-captain. Captured 2013 Massachusetts High School Football Coaches Association All-State Super 26 recognition. Twice earned the team's most valuable player award and earned all-conference honors. Earned All-Conference Player of the Year honors as a senior. Earned Boston Herald and Boston Globe All-Scholastic honors as senior. Three-sport athlete at Catholic Memorial excelled on the lacrosse field and in the hockey rink; served as team captain in each. Registered 211 career tackles for loss and nine career interceptions (via bceagles.com)

2014 Projections: Recruited as a safety, Bletzer has made the shift to linebacker based on the Eagles fall roster. That's one of the few strengths of this team, particular on defense. With upperclassmen like Josh Keyes, Sean Duggan, Steven Daniels and Mike Strizak all vying for playing time, it's hard to see Bletzer cracking the two-deep in year one. He played a lot of different positions in high school though and should prove a versatile player for Addazio and the coaching staff. If he does see the field this year, it may be on special teams.

How'd He Get Here: A two-star recruit out of Catholic Memorial, Boston College was Bletzer's only claimed offer. Recruited by Ryan Day.

Uniform History: Andover DB Jerry Stabile, a four-year letterwinner and Thomas F. Scanlan Memorial Trophy recipient his senior year (1980), wore the #49 jersey from 1977-80. George Colbert, a quarterback from Dedham, also wore the jersey from 1928-30. The number was most recently worn by linebacker Steele Divitto from 2010-13, who started all 13 games at MLB during his senior year en route to earning All-ACC third team honors from the ACSMA.

What Does Addazio Think Of Him: Build that fence. "It was an emphasis for us. We want to make sure that we get the best players out of Massachusetts. I said that when I first got here and I'm sticking to it. We are going to make sure that we get guys like Jon Baker, who is going to be a big-time offensive lineman, and James Hendren, Connor Strachan, Troy Flutie and Isaac Yiadom. These are all the Massachusetts guys. I'm so fired about these guys. Kevin Bletzer out of Catholic Memorial, we really feel like he will be a hell of a football player. We feel great about that and as we move forward we are going to build a fence around Massachusetts."
