Boston College Football: Get To Know The Dudes - #75, OL Ian Silberman

Today, "get to know" ... offensive lineman Ian Silberman.

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Name: Ian Silberman

Position: Offensive lineman

Number: #75

Year: Senior

Height: 6-foot-5

Weight: 293 lbs.

Hometown: Orange Park, FL

High School: Fleming Island

2013 Stats (Florida): Saw action in a total of eight games, starting in four (Georgia, Vanderbilt, South Carolina and Georgia Southern).

2014 Projections: Silberman appears poised to start at right tackle for the Eagles in 2014, a year after fellow Florida transfer Matt Patchan started at left tackle for his grad season.

How'd He Get Here: Back in December, Silberman was reportedly headed to Louisville to reunite with former Gators defensive coordinator Charlie Strong. After Strong left Louisville for Texas, Silberman reopened his commitment and instead decided to play for a different former Gators coordinator. Out of high school, Silberman was a four-star offensive tackle ranked as the 10th best at his position and in the state of Florida in the 2010 class per Rivals (71st nationally). He chose to play at Florida over claimed offers from Clemson, Florida State, Michigan and Tennessee, among others. Recruited by Addazio and Scott Loeffler, now OC/QB coach at Virginia Tech.

What'd Recruiting Sites Say: Rivals.com, back in 2009:

On the Hoof: Very lean and muscular for an offensive lineman, has the appearance of a huge defensive end at this time.
Needs Improvement: Will need the extra weight to help push defensive ends around when run blocking at the next level. He will need to add at least 25-30 more pounds.
Most Impressive: Has very good feet and is able to stay with defenders while engaged. He also is proficient with his pass set and is a natural hip and knee bender.
Conclusion: He is a definite redshirt candidate while he learns the complexity of the college game and gains needed size. Silberman is athletic and tough enough to play either offensive tackle position. Expect him to have a stellar college career and beyond.

Uniform History: There have been many linemen to wear the #75 jersey over the years. Also more than a few captains, particularly recently. OL Marc Colombo (1998-2001), OG Josh Beekman (2003-06) and OG Nathan Richman (2009-11) all served as captain of the Eagles in recent years. Colombo would go on to play for 10 season in the NFL (95 starts), while Beekman started 20 games for the Chicago Bears and is now a Offensive Line Coach GA with FIU.

What Does Addazio Think Of Him: "He [Tyler Murphy] came up from Florida as did Ian Silberman. Ian had a tremendous spring and solidified our right tackle spot. Those are two guys with a lot of experience that I know very well and it has been a great transition both are really going help our program."
