Boston College Football: Get To Know The Dudes - #74, OL Dave Bowen

Today, "get to know" ... offensive lineman Dave Bowen

Name: Dave Bowen

Position: Offensive lineman

Number: #74

Year: Junior

Height: 6-foot-7

Weight: 288 lbs.

Hometown: Villanova, PA

High School: Radnor

2013 Stats: Saw action in two games. Served as backup left tackle behind Matt Patchan.

2014 Projections: Like Betancourt, who also backed up Patchan last season, Bowen is probably still a year away from a starting role on the Eagles' offensive line. He'll push Betancourt and Silberman for playing time, but my guess is Betancourt and Silberman will get slotted into the starting tackle positions, leaving Bowen his senior year to get some well-earned starts.

How'd He Get Here: Bowen was a two-star recruit out of high school, ranked as the 39th best Pennsylvania prospect in the 2011 class. Boston College was his only claimed offer. Recruited by Ryan Day.

Twitter Feed: You can follow Dave on Twitter @DaveBowen74.

Tweetable: Nope, it's a protected account.

Uniform History: A number of different linemen have worn the #74 jersey over the years. Doug Brzezinski wore the #74 jersey from 1995-98, captaining the Eagles during his senior season. A third round pick of the Philadelphia Eagles in the 1999 NFL Draft, Brzezinski would play six seasons professionally with the Eagles and Carolina Panthers. The #74 was also worn by another NFL Draft pick, OT Anthony Castanzo, from 2007-10. The Colts first-round draft pick begins his fourth season with Indianapolis in 2014.

Quotable: "I'm here to prove I can play at Boston College, and my goal is to be the best offensive tackle in the Central League [where state powerhouse Ridley plays]," Bowen said. "It's written down on a piece of paper in my wallet. I know I'm going to be a target, 'the BC kid.' That's why I need to dominate every play and pancake kids.

"I read the blogs about me. They all said the same thing. No one knew who I was and I wouldn't see the field until my redshirt senior year. That may be true, but it's all motivation. I'm happy my college choice is taken care of. Now I have to prove to myself and prove to everyone that I'm a Division-I player, not just a big waste of size."
