Sam Schmal
Hometown: Atlanta, Ga.
High School: Westminster
Position: Offensive Tackle
Height: 6-foot-6
Weight: 265 lbs
40: 5.1
Twitter: @Not_So_Schmal
Rankings: Rivals 2*, Scout 3* (105 position), ESPN 2* (69 overall, 159 position, 778 regional, 164 state), 247Sports 3* (1439 composite, 122 position, 127 state). Drew interest from Arkansas, Duke, Mississippi State and Rice. Recruited by Al Washington and Justin Frye.
Strengths: Has a good frame and should be able to add weight once arriving at BC. Schmal is listed at several different positions but I have to think that BC will use him at tackle. There's not a whole lot of info available on Schmal as the staff evaluated him over the summer at one of BC's camps. Sam is a high school teammate of fellow Boston College commit Cameron Seward.
Realistic Outlook: Schmal will almost certainly redshirt this season, but the future looks bright for the offensive tackle and for the Eagles offensive line. Addazio acquitted himself well in his first recruiting class, grabbing Schmal, Hendren and Baker in this class as well as plugging in grad transfer Silberman to restock the line. I'd imagine both Schmal and Hendren will be waiting in the wings for a few years, but both could be the Eagles' starting tackles in year 3-4.
