National Signing Day: Safety Kevin Bletzer Commits To Boston College

The Eagles pick up a 6-foot-1, 195 pound safety from down the road at Catholic Memorial.

Kevin Bletzer

Hometown: West Roxbury, Ma.
High School: Catholic Memorial
Position: Safety
Height:
6-foot-1
Weight: 195 lbs
40: N/A
Twitter: @k_bletzer3

Highlights:

Rankings: Rivals 2* (10 state), ESPN 2* (68 overall, 158 position, 268 regional, 8 state), 247Sports 3* (1891 composite, 159 position, 11 state). Bletzer received varying interest from Penn State, UConn, UMass, New Hampshire, Maine and Holy Cross but Boston College was his only offer. He turned down scholarship opportunities to play Division I lacrosse at Penn State and UMass. Recruited by Ryan Day and Kevin Lempa.

Strengths: Arguably Bletzer's biggest strength is his versatility. He can play nearly every position on the field. While he'll likely be used in the secondary, the 6-foot-1, 195 pound back could line up at a number of different positions including linebacker, receiver and long snapper. He's got decent size and speed, breaks to the ball well and has a high football IQ.

Realistic Outlook: The Catholic Memorial three-sport athlete figures to bolster the Eagles secondary, one of the deepest units on the team. If Bletzer does see the field this year, I'd imagine it will be on special teams. Ideally, the staff would redshirt Bletzer to give him a year to learn Don Brown's defense. It would be great to restock the pipeline of fifth-year leaders that this program thrived on for much of the last decade, especially in the secondary.
