Gabe McClary
Hometown: Winter Park, FL
High School: Winter Park
Position: Wide Receiver
Height: 6-foot-3
40: 4.58
Weight: 185 lbs.
Highlights: Hudl
Rankings: Rivals 3*, Scout 3* (position 160), ESPN 3* (74 overall, 180 position, 196 state), 247 Sports 3* (rated an 84, position 133 state 150). Selected Boston College over Appalachian State, Illinois, North Carolina, South Florida.
Strengths: McClary is a very different wide receiver then mostly anyone that BC used in 2013. He is tall and plays like the tall outside receiver (think a poor man's Andre Johnson/Calvin Johnson). He is going to be one of those receivers that Darius Wade/Tyler Murphy will be able to throw up in the air and he will be able to use his height to go up and get it. BC sorely needs a receiver like this.
Realistic Outlook: BC's wide receiving group is in transition right now with the graduation of the only legitimate threat last year in Alex Amidon. I would think going into this season that starting jobs are going to be up for grabs all over the field, and if McClary can be reliable in practice, he could be a weapon BC may want to consider using immediately. However if he does take a little time to learn the practice, or needs some beefing up, BC may also want to consider redshirting him and save him for when he is ready.
