National Signing Day: Outisde Linebacker Ty Schwab Commits To Boston College

An unheralded recruit, but a diamond in the rough on defense?

Ty Schwab

Hometown: Merritt Island, Fl
High School: Merritt Island
Position: Outside Linebacker/Safety
Height: 6-foot-2
Weight: 209 lbs
40: 4.6
Twitter: @TySchwab

Highlights: Hudl

Rankings: Rivals 3*, ESPN 4* (81 rating, 31 position, 13 state), 247Sports 3* (83 rating, 84 position, 124 state). Selected Boston College over Tulane, Western Michigan, Maryland, Massachusetts, UTEP. Recruited by Don Brown and Sean McGowan.

Strengths: Schwab might be a little undersized to be an ACC linebacker, but the same could have been said about Mark Herzlich and Luke Kuechly when they came on campus. Believe me I am not comparing Schwab to Herzlich and Kuechly, just talking about size. To be honest, Schwab might have even better size than the other two by the time he hit campus. His highlights show a good ability to shed a block and diagnose a play. He'll be an interesting kid to watch because he has the size and speed to be a safety if Don Brown wants to put him there. His versatility will make him valuable on this roster.

Realistic Outlook: Schwab was one of the more unheralded recruits in this class. He camped with BC last year and received an offer shortly after. Though his offer sheet seems rather thin, he did get a lot of attention from other schools in the south and the staff at Miami (Florida), in particular, was very impressed by his play. He could be the sleeper or diamond in the rough of this class, someone that makes an impact that comes out of nowhere to many fans. He is a player that we should look forward to watching on defense, and could be an exciting talent in the future.
