National Signing Day: Running Back Sherm Alston Commits To Boston College

New Jersey back could bring a different style of running to the backfield.

Sherman Alston

Hometown: Montvale, NJ
High School: St. Joseph Regional
Position: Running Back
Height: 5 foot 7
Weight: 165 lbs.
40: 4.45
Twitter: @Dakkid_Sherm

Highlights:

Rankings: Rivals 3* (State 30), Scout 2*, ESPN 3* (rated an 72, 122 position, 49 state), 247 Sports 2* (rated an 79, position 43  state 30). Selected Boston College over Delaware, Bryant, UNH, Albany. Recruited by Ryan Day and Al Washington.

Strengths: Easily the fast recruit in the 2014 class, Alston has the ability to break away from tackles with lightning quickness. Though he is very undersized, he has shown that he has the makeup to play against solid defenses as seen in his play in a very competitive league in New Jersey.

Realistic Outlook: Alston is the antithesis of Andre Williams, but still will provide BC with much needed flexibility on offense. He has speed, he has speed and oh yes he has speed.  With Myles Willis looking to be the feature back moving forward, Alston may be a situational back at first, moving him around could cause matchup issues for the defense, and will give Ryan Day flexibility with his schemes. Having him rotating with Jonathan Hilliman will give BC a dynamic one two punch in the future, and he even has the chance to play next year though with David Dudeck and Tyler Rouse both still with the team, it might make sense to redshirt Alston for 2014.
