Jon Baker
Hometown: Milton, MA
High School: Millis
Position: Offensive Guard
Height: 6-foot-3
Weight: 300 lbs
40: 5.1
Highlights: Hudl
Rankings: Rivals 3* (position 26, State 3), Scout 3* (position 75), ESPN 3* (rated an 74, 70 position, 6 state), 247 Sports 3* (rated an 86, position 39 state 3). Selected Boston College over Connecticut, Harvard, Holy Cross, Massachusetts, Michigan St, Ohio, Old Dominion, Syracuse, Temple, Yale.
Strengths: Here we go, a lineman's lineman. Great size, Baker is exactly what Addazio needs on the offensive line. Coming in at 300 pounds, Baker already has the size to play. Played both sides of the ball in high school, but will be focusing on offensive guard at Boston College.
Realistic Outlook: Baker will be a stalwart on the offensive line for Steve Addazio, and just strikes me as the kind of gritty grinder that Addazio wants. He had a few solid east coast offers, and Penn State was lurking before Bill O'Brien left. But Baker is a dude. Just look at his picture on Scout, he looks like a dude. Already on campus as an early enrollee Baker may be ready to fill in if BC needs help at the guard position. However with Harris Williams and Seth Betancourt returning, along with the transfer of Ian Silberman, Baker may not be needed this year, and may be redshirted until 2015. Also have to wonder, playing in Massachusetts how ready Baker will be to immediately play, but those extra practices may be a help. However, if there are injuries it's always good to have some depth, and he looks like he may be ready to fill in admirably if needed.
