Boston College Football Recruiting: Dual-Threat QB D.J. Gillins Cuts List To Four

Boston College, Arizona, Georgia Tech and Wisconsin.

D.J. Gillins - Bud Elliott (SB Nation Recruiting)

One of Boston College's top remaining targets, Jean Ribault HS dual-threat quarterback D.J. Gillins, is nearing a decision and has cut his list to four. The 6-foot-3, 185 pound QB from Jacksonville, Florida Tweeted that he'll decide between Arizona, Boston College, Georgia Tech and Wisconsin.

Gillins' list of finalists is interesting for the programs left off as much as the ones on the list. A little over a week ago, the nation's second ranked DUAL according to 247Sports, listed BC, Louisville, Wisconsin and Arizona as his favorites, with BC leading the way for his services. The snag with Louisville was that the Cardinals had yet to extend an offer and are happy with Louisville native Reggie Bonnafon, the No. 19-rated DUAL in the 2014 class.

Also absent from the list is Vanderbilt, who Gillins listed among his top six schools, though not at the top of his list. Gillins' interest in Georgia Tech seems to be a recent development and is a school that didn't appear to be on the QB's radar previously.

What the other three schools have on Boston College is that they have all yet to sign a QB for 2014, while the Eagles already have a verbal commitment from DUAL Darius Wade (Middletown, Delaware). Gillins has also not been able to visit the Heights as yet, though the coaching staff has recently been trying to get the signal caller on campus.

Of note, SB Nation's Bud Elliott recently caught up with BC commits Thaddius Smith and Darius Wade at last weekend's IMG 7v7 National Championship. Wade was asked about a possible QB competition within the 2014 class and whether he'd prefer to go to a school bringing in just one QB in the class. The full interview is worth the watch.
