Eagles receive 17 commitments from prospective student-athletes

It's official. Boston College football signed 17 student-athletes to National Letters of Intent on Wednesday.

Drew Barksdale, Wide Receiver, 5-11, 180, Solon HS, Solon, Ohio

Earned Northeast Ohio Conference honorable mention accolades as a senior captain in 2012 ... registered 35 receptions for 564 yards and seven touchdowns during his schoolboy career ... rushed for 480 yards and five touchdowns and completed 27 passes for 386 yards and seven touchdowns ... captured consecutive conference championships in 2010 and 2011 ... was a three-time Northeast Ohio Conference Scholar Athlete Award honoree ... played for head coach Jim McQuaide ... also recruited by Air Force, Akron and Yale ... also starred on the lacrosse field and was offered a lacrosse scholarship at Michigan.

Charlie Callinan, Wide Reciever, 6-4, 215, St. Peter's Prep, Westfield, N.J.

Earned MSG Varsity All-New Jersey Second Team honors as a senior captain ... named to the All-Hudson County First Team in 2012 ... played in the 2012 Chesapeake Bowl all-star game ... helped the Marauders win four consecutive county championships ... caught 33 passes for 565 yards and 9 touchdowns as a senior ... played for head coach Richie Hansen ... also recruited by Connecticut and Rutgers.

Jack Cottrell, Linebacker/Defensive End, 6-4, 220, Eden Prairie, Eden Prairie, Minn.

Earned Minnesota AP All-State honors as a senior captain ... named an All-Lake Conference performer in 2011 and 2012 ... led the Eagles in tackles as a junior and senior ... compiled 113 tackles (13 for loss), seven sacks, and three interceptions in his final campaign ... helped lead team to consecutive Class 6A state championships in 2011 and 2012 ... played for head coach Mike Grant ... also recruited by Iowa State and Minnesota ... also captained the basketball team at Eden Prairie.

Truman Gutapfel, Defensive Tackle, 6-3, 260, Harrison, Harrison, Ohio

Won the 2012 Ohio Division II Anthony Munoz Defensive Lineman of the Year award ... earned Fort Ancient Valley - Buckeye all-league honors as a senior ... garnered First Team AP Southwest All-District accolades in 2012 ... received AP All-Ohio special mention laurels ... played for head coach Kent McCollough ... also recruited by Akron, Bowling Green, and Cincinnati ... also amassed over 100 career victories as a high-school wrestler.

John Johnson, Safety, 6-0, 175, Northwestern HS, West Hyattsville, Md.

Earned First Team All-County and Second Team All-State accolades ... recorded 50 tackles, six tackles for loss, five interceptions, and 13 passes deflected in 2012 ... named team captain for his senior season ... also recruited by Bucknell, Buffalo, UConn, and Lehigh.

Marquis Little, Linebacker, 6-3, 215, Manchester HS, Manchester, Conn.

Earned Hartford Courant and Walter Camp All-Connecticut State team honors as a senior at Manchester HS ... earned All-Central Connecticut Conference honors as a senior ... recorded 72 tackles, including eight sacks, and two forced fumbles as senior linebacker ... a versatile, athletic performer who also played quarterback ... rushed 81 times for 609 yards and eight touchdowns in eight games, and completed 74-of-132 passing attempts for 831 yards and eight touchdowns ... played for head coach Marco Pizzoferrato.

Mack Lowrie, Quarterback, 6-3, 195, Roxbury Latin School, Foxboro, Mass.

Selected to the "Super 26" All-State team ... named to Massachusetts All-State team ... three-time First Team NEPSAC All-New England selection ... Independent School League MVP ... NEPSAC Division C Player of the Year ... Boston Globe and Herald All-Scholastic accolades ... holds the ISL record for touchdowns in a season with 35 ... career totals of 5,600 passing yards, 1,600 rushing yards, and 75 touchdowns ... four year starter in football, basketball, and baseball ... named captain as a senior in football ... also recruited by UConn, Maryland, NC State, and Virginia.

Matt Milano, Safety, 6-0, 200, Dr. Philips/Orlando, Fla.

Earned Orlando Sentinel All-Central Florida Defensive Player of the Year honors as a senior safety in 2012 ... earned 8A All-State first-team honors ... earned All-Metro Conference honors and Florida Athletic Coaches Association District 10 (Orange, Osceola counties) All-District honors in 2012 ... served as team captain ...earned registered 100 tackles, including 18 tackles for loss and three sacks ... played for head coach Rodney Wells ... also recruited by Air Force, Arizona, Bowling Green and Miami (Ohio).

Tevin Montgomery, Defensive Tackle, 6-3, 295, Tabor Academy, Jamaica Plain, Mass.

Registered 48 tackles, including four sacks, in 12 games as a senior defensive tackle at Tabor Academy in 2012 ... served as team captain ... selected to the U-19 National Football team ... invited to participate in the Semper Fidelis All-America Bowl ... played for head coach Bill Hrasky ... also recruited by Maryland, Missouri, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Connecticut, Rutgers and Temple.

Atem Ntantang, Cornerback, 5'11, 180, Woodgrove HS, Purcellville, Va.

Earned first team All-Dulles District and All-Region II honors as a senior ... gained 2012 Washington Post All-Met Second Team accolades ... totaled 82 tackles, 15 passes defended, and 3 interceptions as a senior ... rushed for over 900 yards and 10 touchdowns as a junior ... played for head coaches Mike Skinner and Jerry Gordon ... also recruited by Yale, Columbia, Georgetown, and Virginia ... also competed in track and field for the Wolverines.

Matt Patchan, Offensive Lineman, 6-6, 304, Armwood HS/Univ. of Florida/Tampa, Fla.

Played in 27 games at Florida, starting eight games ... made 11 appearances as a true freshman on the defensive line, then switched to the offensive line during the spring of 2009 ... did not play his senior season because of injury ... in 2011, he played in 12 games, starting at right tackle for the last seven of the regular season ... earned the Scrap Iron Award following his efforts in the Vanderbilt game. Prior to Florida, he was named a USA Today and EA Sports First-Team All-American and selected to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl ... was deemed a five-star recruit by Rivals.com the fourth-ranked offensive tackle by Scout.com.

Joel Rich, Tight End, 6-3, 225, St. Thomas Aquinas, Paris, Ohio

Earned Associated Press All-State first-team honors as a senior tight end in 2012 ... registered 45 career receptions for 620 yards and 15 touchdowns ... tallied 213 career tackles, including 15 sacks, five forced fumbles and six fumble recoveries ... served as team captain ... earned Ohio Coaches Association All-Ohio All-Academic team honors ... played for head coach Tim Budd.

Tyler Rouse, Running Back, 5-9, 190, Baker HS, Baldwinsville, N.Y.

Gatorade Player of the Year for New York in 2012 ... named Player of the Year by the New York State Sportswriters Association ... featured in Sports Illustrated's "Faces in the Crowd"... rushed for 2,977 yards on 333 carries (8.9 yards per carry) and had 45 touchdowns in 2012 ... career totals of 6,941 rushing yards on 807 carries (8.6 yards per carry).

James Walsh, Quarterback, 6-1, 187, Dublin Coffman HS, Dublin, Ohio.

Threw for 2,038 yards and rushed for 558 yards in 2012 ... registered a completion percentage of 60% with 46 total touchdowns in the last two seasons ... All-District and All-League in football and baseball ... captain of the football team as a senior ... three year letterman in football, four year letterman in baseball ... also recruited by Akron, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Ohio, and Toledo.

Myles Willis, Running Back, 5-9, 185, Marist School, Conyers, Ga.

Earned Georgia AAAA Region 6A All-State Offensive Most Valuable Player honors as a senior quarterback in 2012 ... served as team captain ... completed 63-of-111 passing attempts for 1,005 yards and nine touchdowns ... registered 221 rushing attempts for 1,181 yards and 18 touchdowns ... played for head coach Alan Chadwick ... also recruited by Florida State, Virginia, Wake Forest, Connecticut, Central Florida and Mississippi State.
