Boston College Football Recruiting: LB Jack Cottrell Commits To The Eagles

A look at a 2013 BC commit, linebacker Jack Cottrell

Jack Cottrell

Hometown: Eden Prairie, Minnesota
High School: Eden Prairie High School
Position: Outside Linebacker
Height: 6-foot-4
GPA: 3.89
Weight: 215 lbs.
Twitter: N/A

Rankings: Rivals 3* (position 55, State 4), Scout 3* (position 44), ESPN 3* (rated a 77, 77 position, 3 state), 247 Sports 3* (rated an 85, position 72 state 4). Selected Boston College over North Dakota. Originally recruited by Mike Siravo.

Strengths: Something about watching this kid reminds me a lot of some of the other great linebackers BC has had in the past. He blasts through blocks, makes great tackles on option reads and run plays. I get that he hasn't been recruited by other schools, but there was another great BC linebacker that didn't receive much attention and he is doing well in the NFL right now.

Realistic Outlook: BC has good depth right now at linebacker but Cottrell will be needed after this year when Kevin Pierre Louis and Steele Divitto graduate. He is undersized right now for an ACC linebacker, but a summer at the gym with the S&C could fix that. His video reels were pretty impressive, and with some good coaching he could be a great contributor and soon.
