Boston College Football Recruiting: Safety John Johnson Commits To The Eagles

A look at a 2013 BC commit safety John Johnson

John Johnson

Hometown: Hyattsville, Maryland
High School: Northwestern
Position: Safety
Height: 6-foot-1
Weight: 180 lbs
40: N/A

Rankings: Rivals 2* (position NR, State NR), Scout 2* (position 124), ESPN 2* (rated a 66, 109 position, 44 state), 247 Sports 2* (rated a 79, position 133 state 42). Chose Boston College over Bucknell, Buffalo, Duke, Lehigh, UMass, Missouri, Pittsburgh. Unclear who originally recruited him.

Stats: 45 total tackles. 5 Interceptions. 29 carries for 290 yards.

Strengths: Johnson was a first team all 4A in Maryland, 2nd Team All State, and was selected to the Chesepeake Crab Bowl All Star Game. Johnson certainly racked up the accolades in his home state, and gained a lot of interest from some BCS schools late in his recruitment. Watching his film, he appears to be more of the physical type of safety, making good reads on the ball, and delivering hits when he needs to. Just by watching his film it would appear that speed is not his strong suit, but an eye for the ball is.

Realistic Outlook: Addazio would be wise to work with Johnson on building up his size just a bit, and getting him up to college speed, which based on his game film might take some time. BC has a glut of safeties right now, and I would imagine that Addazio might use Johnson's redshirt for this season.
