Boston College Vs. New Mexico State: Eagles Open As A 24.5-Point Road Favorite

So you're saying there's a chance?

Stephen Dunn

This weekend, the Boston College football team looks to inch one step closer to bowl eligibility as they travel to Las Cruces to take on New Mexico State. The Wynn Las Vegas expects BC to do just that, installing the Eagles as an early 24.5-point road favorite vs. the Aggies.

Not since 2007 has Boston College been favored by more points against an FBS opponent (Army +26). You have to go back to the 2001 season to find a game in which the Eagles were a larger road favorite (@ Rutgers +30).

That large of a point spread may be a bit surprising, but New Mexico State is having a disappointing season even as far as New Mexico State seasons go. The Aggies are just 1-7 on the year with their lone win a five point victory over a transitional FCS Abilene Christian team. New Mexico State has been outscored by an average of 46.2 - 20.3 on the year and ranks dead last in rushing defense, allowing 312.11 yards per game on the ground.

Boston College is the second BCS AQ program to visit Las Cruces this season in the Aggies first and only season as an FBS Independence. In week 2, Minnesota traveled to New Mexico as a 16-point road favorite and went on to win 44-21.

Other week 11 lines of note:

-- Duke (6-2) is a 10-point home favorite vs. N.C. State (3-5).
-- Florida State (8-0) is a 34-point road favorite at Wake Forest (4-5), who will be playing without star wide out Michael Campanaro. #therivalry welp
-- Miami (7-1) is a 7-point home favorite as the Hurricanes host Virginia Tech (6-3).
-- Coming off a bye week, Maryland (5-3) is a 5.5-point home favorite as the Terps host Syracuse (4-4) in the two team's first and only meeting as members of the ACC.
-- North Carolina (3-5) is a 15-point home favorite over hapless Virginia (2-7).
-- USC (6-3) is a 18.5-point road favorite at Cal (1-8).
-- Pittsburgh (4-4) is a 5-point home underdog as the Panthers host Notre Dame (7-2).
-- Army (3-6) is a 7-point home dog as the Black Knights host Western Kentucky (5-4).
